I was in Northern Iraq on a food distribution project for women who had lost their husbands in war.
I stopped the vehicle on a small red clay hill to take a short break. The conflict was briefly suspended and staff members were momentarily at ease, and able to be free from tension for the first time in a long time.
At that moment, a breeze touched our cheeks softly turning our heads to a field down below the hill. There were beautiful yellow flowers blooming all over the field. We had not noticed until then that spring had come already due to the tension of the war.
In that wind we felt a moment of peace.
We were very impressed by the scene, and we decided to name our organization Peace Winds in the hope that we can bring peace to the world like a gentle wind.
The Peace Winds logo was designed with the image of 'the wind that brings peace'.
